The Netherlands - Zuurkoolstamppot and Appelflappen
Well, here it is- the very last post of this year long project! Last year my New Years resolution was to learn how to cook and cook more often, and this project was my way of doing that. Now, here we are a whole year later, and I actually kept it up, so here's my meal for the final week of the year- Dutch sauerkraut and bacon stamppot, and apple beignets for dessert. The Zuurkoolstamppot, to start, was very successful. It was a very comforting and filling dish that I enjoyed quite a lot! Mind you, it's hard to go wrong with potatoes, sauerkraut and bacon, so of course this was going to be delicious. The biggest surprise of this dish though was using celery leaves as a seasoning. I have never used celery leaves in anything before, and to be completely honest, I didn't find that they added all that much flavor to the dish, since it was sort of overpowered by the bacon and sauerkraut.
