Canada - Tourtière

Well folks, we've made it to July! I figured I should cover my own country in this project of mine, and so for Canada Day, I made a uniquely Canadian Tourtière , or meat pie. Tourtière is specifically French-Canadian, and so through this recipe I still felt I was able to explore a culture separate from my own.

This was a very interesting experience for me, as this was my first time making a pie by myself. I've been to a few community pie making events where people come together to make hundreds of pies, (in one we made apple pies, in the other we actually did make tourtière!) but those were more like assembly lines, so I had never made a pie on my own. I was very pleased with the result, even if the crust fell apart as soon as I cut into it. So the pastry was incredibly crumbly, but the meat filling was delicious, and smelled amazing as I was cooking it on the stove. Not a bad outcome for my first pie!
